Someday someone will have to explain to me where time goes. I really have no idea how a week has passed since Steven, Samuel and Amaya were born (though I do suspect the 6 day hospital stay had some impact).
After a bit of drama trying to regulate my blood pressure, I was released from the hospital on Saturday. I’ve been prepared to come home without my babies since I learned I was carrying triplets and I knew it would be difficult to leave them behind but, really, there’s no preparing for how it feels in the moment. Everything about arriving at a hospital pregnant and leaving without your babies is wrong. Fortunately, I’ve been home for 2 days now and I can feel that I’m going to settle well into a routine of daily visits to the nicu.
Right now, there are a handful of things we can do to care for the babies. Jason has mastered the art of feeding prep – clean the eyes & mouth, umbilical cord care, diaper change, temperature and shift in location of pulse ox monitor. MASTERED IT. I’m still trying not to stand too much so I’ll have to catch up soon. That said, I’m already working on breast feeding. Amaya is a little champ! She’s gung ho and doing a great job getting milk. Hopefully she’ll keep it up. Her brothers are a bit more ambivalent but they’ll get it eventually. Did you know that breast feeding requires the coordination of 26 different muscles? If I had an alternate food source, I’d be ambivalent, too!
We’re also able to do skin to skin kangaroo care which is amazing and also a kind of torture because you can’t fall asleep with a baby on your chest but there’s nothing you want to do more than sleep with a baby on your chest! Lovely!! It’s so awesome that all are doing well. The pictures of kids and parents are so sweet. It will be easier when the babies can come home. I hope it will be soon.

Ooooh, super cute family! I love the Kangaroo care, such warm relaxing times with babies. Joanna – You are a champ! Be kind to your wrists while breastfeeding. It’s one of those body parts that takes a beating in the first year. Jason looks like a pro.
